At a further meeting with Transport for West Midlands (TfWM, formerly CENTRO) it was reported that the new bus service replacing the Taxibus had carried 580 passengers in one week (which included 180 school children) compared with an average of 400 per week using the Taxibus (which required two vehicles).
TfWM are looking into the possibility of extending the “roaming service” which currently operates in Meriden and Balsall Common to Hampton-in-Arden. They are also considering the feasibility of introducing a weekly door to door service to Knowle and Solihull. However, the Parish Council is pushing for the Ring and Ride service, which already operates in other parts of Solihull, to be extended to cover the rural villages which used to be served by the Taxibus.
Meriden, Balsall Common, Berkswell and Hampton Parish Councils, together with Catney Residents Association, are now co-operating closely together in an attempt to achieve a satisfactory outcome.
