Many residents will be aware that, following the recent snow and heavy rain, the car park has again flooded. The Parish Council has been actively investigating the cause of the blockage in the drainage system for some time and has received some assistance from Solihull Council, our local grounds maintenance contractor and most recently Severn Trent Water.
Interestingly, it has been discovered that the car park drainage is connected to a substantial brick culvert running under the car park and thought to have been built in the early 1830`s. It is possible that the culvert was built to drain surface water from parts of the village or as part of the construction of the railway to divert a water course away from the cutting running alongside the recreation ground. The culvert, which discharges into Shadow Brook is very obviously blocked or has collapsed in places.
We are currently working with Solihull Council and Severn Trent Water to establish ownership and responsibility for maintenance and in the meantime arrangements have been made for the lying water to be pumped away (hopefully to be completed on 14th March)..
We will provide more information to residents as it becomes available.
